Tesla and SpaceX boards each form a special committee to study a combination; no deal or terms
Both 10-Q (quarterly SEC report) filings on Oct 22 confirm it.

SpaceX's board formed a special committee (independent directors who review a deal so insiders don't decide alone) to evaluate a potential combination with Tesla, and Tesla's board formed one of disinterested directors to explore deepening the relationship, which could include a business combination. SpaceX says no determination has been made, and any deal would need approval from its committee, its board and its controlling shareholder; Tesla says any deal would need its committee's recommendation and any required shareholder approval. The two already trade: Tesla booked $221M of Q3 revenue from SpaceX Megapack purchases ($626M year to date) and was owed $729M at Sep 30, including capacity reservations. Still unknown: whether, when and on what terms anything happens.

SpaceX's 10-Q: one AI customer paid 34.5% of all Q3 revenue
An unnamed Super Intelligence customer ("Customer B") made up 34.5% of SpaceX's $14.58B of Q3 revenue, about $5.0B, up from 24.2% for the first nine months; another customer across all three segments was 16.6%.

Backlog (orders signed but not yet delivered) was $62.96B at Sep 30. SpaceX held $51.3B of cash and $38.6B of marketable securities against $38.0B of total debt, and the $20B bridge loan (a short-term loan, repaid once longer-term money comes in) was repaid in full in June from the $25B notes. Why it matters: compute rentals are now SpaceX's biggest revenue line, so a few large customers drive the AI number; the filing does not name them.

Reported: SpaceX's $40B chip-backed debt set to price around 7.75% to 8.3%
Semafor reported that the lowest-rated part of SpaceX's $40B financing is expected to carry about 8.3% and the safer chip-backed part about 7.75%, with pricing expected next week; Apollo and Goldman Sachs lead the deal.

That is more than SpaceX's June notes, which pay 5.35% and up (10-Q). Semafor ties the higher cost to broader nervousness about AI lending. Still unknown: final pricing, which can change before closing.

Reported: SpaceX seeks access to at least 80,000 US cell sites for its own network
Bloomberg reported, via Reuters, that SpaceX is in talks with tower companies including Crown Castle to get access to at least 80,000 US cell sites for a nationwide wireless network.

Crown Castle's CEO said the company is talking to "all parties" but did not confirm a SpaceX deal. That matches the hybrid plan in SpaceX's filings, satellites plus antennas on towers, and the gap Deutsche Telekom's CEO flagged on Oct 12 (T-Mobile runs about 85,000 US antennas). Still unknown: terms, cost and timing; SpaceX has not commented.

Tesla's first Robotaxi safety report: 3.1M miles with no safety monitor and four cities next
Tesla's new safety page says its fleet drove 3.1 million miles with no onboard safety monitor from Jan 22 to Oct 18 across Austin, Dallas, Houston, Orlando, Tampa and Miami, with zero injuries, airbag deployments or pedestrian and cyclist strikes by Tesla's definitions.

It lists Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Phoenix and San Antonio as coming soon, with no dates. The figure is above the nearly 2 million unsupervised miles in Tesla's Q3 update for Sep 30, and Tesla has not reconciled the two counts. Still unknown: ride counts and how often remote operators step in.

Virginia's attorney general warns it may sue over Grok explicit images
SpaceX's 10-Q says Virginia's Office of the Attorney General sent a notice of violation on Oct 19 to SpaceX, SpaceXAI and X Corp., saying it is contemplating a suit over allegations that they misrepresented and omitted Grok's propensity to generate nonconsensual explicit images, including of women and children.

It joins other Grok image cases listed in the filing. Still unknown: whether Virginia files and what penalties it would seek.

Space Force got no bids, SpaceX included, for three launches as Falcon winds down
Politico reported that SpaceX declined to bid on three upcoming National Security Space Launch missions, two of them for the Space Development Agency, and no other company bid either.

A Space Force official said he is not worried about flying the missions and the service is "working through" how to support them; SpaceX did not comment. Starship is built for flat-stacked satellites like Starlink, while most military satellites need a larger bay. SpaceX's 10-Q shows 33 Falcon launches in Q3, down from 43 a year earlier.

NASA safety panel cites 22 Starship launches per Moon landing; Musk says 6 to 8
At its Oct 22 meeting, NASA's Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel said it had been told about 22 launches would be needed to fuel the Starship lander for Artemis IV, and said it will recommend NASA re-examine that mission's objectives and architecture.

Musk replied on X that the number "will be more like 6 to 8." NASA said this week SpaceX plans to show in-space cryogenic propellant transfer in early 2027 and an uncrewed Moon landing test in late 2027. The launch count matters because each one is cost and time on the critical path.
