SpaceX reports after the close today, and Wall Street expects a swing to profit
FactSet's consensus, reported by MarketWatch on Oct 19, calls for Q3 net income of $1.87B against a $541M loss in Q2, adjusted earnings of 12 cents a share (Q2: a 4-cent adjusted loss) and revenue of $12.87B, up from $7.81B. CFO Bret Johnsen has said Q3 and Q4 capital spending should be comparable to Q2's $18.4B, most of which went to AI. Results land after the market close, with an audio webcast at 3:30 PM CT. Still unknown: whether the AI segment turns a profit, the capex outlook, and whether the fourth compute customer gets named.

Europe's four biggest carriers team up to bid for the satellite-to-phone spectrum Starlink wants
Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica and Vodafone signed a letter of intent on Oct 19 to explore a joint bid for Europe's mobile-satellite spectrum, the 2 GHz band used for direct-to-device service. They would run the ground network, coordination and monitoring in Europe and pick a satellite partner later, without building their own constellation. The plan follows the US ambassador's Oct 18 warning of retaliation if Europe shuts out non-European operators. The four said the bid does not replace existing satellite partnerships. Still unknown: which satellite partner they choose, and how the EU splits the band when current rights expire in May 2027.

Tesla's annual report says V3 Optimus is "readied" for mass production
Tesla's 2026 annual report and proxy, filed with the SEC on Oct 19, list four headline claims: 10+ million vehicles delivered, 130+ GWh of energy storage deployed, vision-only Robotaxi launched in the US, and "V3 Optimus for mass-production" readied. The chair's letter says Tesla is building its first Optimus production lines and a Semi factory in Nevada, making Megapack 3 in Texas, and investing in chip-making through Terafab, "beginning with our Austin Fab." The annual meeting is Dec 3 at 3:00 PM CT, with three routine items: re-electing Musk, Robyn Denholm and JB Straubel, a say-on-pay vote, and ratifying the auditor. Still unknown: Optimus output numbers and a production date.

Memphis votes today on a pause for new data centers
The Memphis City Council is set to vote Oct 20 on a moratorium of up to a year on new data centers and on expanding existing ones, while a study committee writes rules. It would not shut facilities already operating legally, CNN reported. The vote was postponed 7-5 on Oct 6 after a chaotic meeting, and Mayor Paul Young has since ordered a separate 90-day study. Council member JB Smiley Jr. said he proposed the pause after learning from social media that SpaceXAI planned to expand in the city. Still unknown: whether it passes, and how it would touch SpaceX's Colossus build-out.

Grok 4.7 reaches Amazon's government cloud, and Musk says X time spent keeps hitting highs
AWS said Oct 19 that Grok 4.7 is now available on Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud (US), its cloud for government workloads, for coding, agent tasks and knowledge work. That evening Musk said X switched on a new AI ranking model that predicts time spent and a retrieval model that surfaces posts people read all the way through, adding that user active seconds are "hitting all-time highs almost every day." X has not published the usage figures behind that. Still unknown: whether more time spent shows up as ad revenue and paid subscriptions.
