Musk says two more Colossus 2 AI buildings come online by December
Musk posted on Oct 31 that two Colossus 2 buildings near Memphis already hold 220,000 GB300s each (Nvidia's newest AI chip systems), and two more are close behind.

The next building, nicknamed Gun Range, gets the same 220,000 chips and is "tracking to be operational by end of November," and a fourth, Spam (a former Hormel warehouse), gets about 200,000 chips set up for inference (running finished AI models to answer requests) in December. Musk added there will be "around 1.2M Blackwells" (Nvidia's current chip family) at Colossus 2 by year-end. These are his targets, not a SpaceX filing, and he did not say how much of the new capacity goes to rental customers versus SpaceX's own Grok work.

A judge lets the NAACP's pollution lawsuit over Colossus 2's power plant go ahead
On Oct 30 a federal judge in Mississippi denied the motion by xAI (now part of SpaceX) to dismiss an NAACP lawsuit over gas turbines that power Colossus 2.
The suit, under the Clean Air Act (the main US air-pollution law), says the company ran dozens of gas turbines at its Southaven, Mississippi power plant without the air permits a power plant needs. Judge Debra M. Brown ruled the turbines are not exempt "mobile sources" and that the NAACP has the right to sue, so the case moves forward; earlier in October the court also refused the US government's request to end the case. This does not decide whether any law was broken. What it means: a slower, costlier path for powering new data centers is now a live risk, not a dismissed one.

Canada's prime minister says Canada won't tie its defense to Starlink
In a Politico interview published Oct 30, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada has not tied its defenses to a satellite system run by one billionaire, "nor would we given the track record."

He pointed to Canada's own LEO (low Earth orbit) satellite network, Telesat's Lightspeed, which he said should be working in 2028, and talked about possibly linking it with Europe's IRIS² network. Telesat's satellites are still due to launch on SpaceX rockets. Starlink keeps serving many Canadian homes in remote areas; the comments are about military use, where governments are increasingly building alternatives.

Tesla now has 1,204 robotaxis registered in Texas, close to Waymo's 1,259
Texas DMV records show Tesla Robotaxi LLC with 1,204 registered self-driving vehicles as of Nov 1 (631 Model Ys and 573 Cybercabs), up from 1,080 on Oct 30, per tracker sites that read the state list.

Waymo, the biggest US robotaxi rival, has 1,259 registered in Texas. A registration means a car is allowed, not that it is giving rides right now. Tesla's Robotaxi account also said on Oct 30 that its cars had passed 4 million unsupervised miles (no one in the driver's seat), as service hours stretched to 6 AM to 2 AM. Still unknown: how many cars give rides on a typical day.

Lawmakers keep pressing SpaceX on Starlink in Ukraine
Sen. Alex Padilla said on Oct 30 that Musk's own posts and new reporting raise questions worth an inquiry, after The Atlantic reported SpaceX suggested an upgraded, pricier contract to restore Ukraine's service.
U.S. officials told The Atlantic that when the military asked about the outages, SpaceX advised switching to an upgraded contract; its military service, Starshield, can cost far more per terminal than regular Starlink (reported, unnamed officials). Musk has said Ukraine broke Starlink's terms by using it for offensive drone strikes, and Ukraine disputes that. A letter from Sen. Peter Welch and Rep. Gregory Meeks asked Musk for answers by Oct 31, and four senators asked SpaceX for answers by Nov 2; no public SpaceX reply was found. The Pentagon's inspector general declined to investigate.

Musk says space computing could pass ground computing by the end of 2028
Musk posted on Oct 30 that "orbital compute deployed per month probably exceeds terrestrial around the end of 2028 and then far exceeds it in 2029."
It is a forecast, not a plan with numbers behind it. SpaceX has said its Starmind computing satellites begin flying in 2027, and none are in orbit yet, while Google's test chips are already working in space. What it means: Musk keeps raising the bar for this bet, and Starship has to fly often and cheaply for it to happen.

Grok's API adds a hidden watermark by default from Nov 7
SpaceXSI's developer docs say text from Grok models sold through its API will carry an invisible watermark by default starting Nov 7, to comply with the EU AI Act.
The watermark slightly shapes word choices so text can later be recognized as AI-written; SpaceXSI says it does not change quality or speed. It covers grok-4.7, 4.6, 4.5, 4.3 and the 4.20 models, and team admins can opt out per model. What it means: a compliance step for business customers in Europe, not a new revenue source.

Grok drops its beta label in Tesla cars
Tesla software update 2026.38.6, released Oct 29, removes the "beta" label from Grok, the in-car AI assistant, Tesla News Wire reported on Oct 31, citing Not a Tesla App's release notes.

The same update adds Supercharger site maps with live stall status and headlights that adjust their aim to cut glare. Grok is also now in Robotaxi Model Ys. What it means: Grok keeps spreading through Tesla's fleet, though Tesla has not said how many drivers use it.
