SpaceX files the details of its $40B AI chip lease, and Starlink's phone service now covers all of Brazil.
A filing shows an Apollo-managed company will buy next-generation Nvidia chips and lease them to SpaceX from 2027, with the interest rate still to be set. Verizon's CEO says Starlink would need years and hundreds of billions of dollars to compete in US cities, Tesla made its Houston Robotaxi area about 10 times bigger, and easyJet picked Starlink for its whole fleet.

Anthropic's IPO filing: up to $120.5B for SpaceX compute through 2029
Anthropic's S-1, filed Oct 26, says it agreed to spend up to $120.5B with SpaceXAI, SpaceX's AI subsidiary, over deals running into 2029, about $3.1B a month once all capacity arrives in December.

The deals were signed and amended between May and October 2026, for compute on Nvidia GPUs, with different fees while capacity ramps up. Neither side can cancel before January 2027 or March 2027, depending on the deal; after that, either side can cancel on 90 days' notice. What it means: much more locked-in rent than the $1.25B a month first reported, but after early 2027 Anthropic can still walk, and SpaceX can take the capacity back. Still unknown: how the "up to" total is reached and what the ramp fees are.

SpaceX files its $40B AI chip deal: Apollo buys the chips, SpaceX leases them
SpaceX said on Oct 26 that it signed a binding commitment for a "master finance lease" of about $40B with a company managed by Apollo, which will buy GPU pods (racks of AI chips, including Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin) and lease them to SpaceX's data centers.

Its 8-K filing says each delivery gets its own lease of about five to five and a quarter years, rent is paid quarterly, and the fixed interest rate is set at pricing before the final signing, so the cost is not known yet. The deal should close before year-end, and leases start in the first half of 2027 as chips arrive. Apollo and Goldman Sachs lead, with BlackRock, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and KKR-advised accounts as anchor backers. CFO Bret Johnsen said SpaceX is seeing "less than one year payback periods" on its Super Intelligence investments, which is the company's own claim. What it means: the chips for next year's growth have a funding plan, but it is a commitment with closing conditions, not money in hand.

Starlink's phone service now covers all of Brazil through carrier Vivo
Starlink said on Oct 26 that Starlink Mobile is live across Brazil with Vivo, so 50M Vivo customers can use apps and messaging in cellular dead zones, with 7M phones already connected.

Starlink called it the first nationwide service to cover an entire country. It works through Vivo, not as Starlink's own phone plan. No pricing or revenue figures came with the news. What it means: a big real-world test of satellite-to-phone service at national scale, which helps the case for the larger Mobile V2 satellites coming in 2027.

Verizon's CEO says Starlink needs 4-6 years and $300B+ to compete; Musk says 2 or 3 years
On Verizon's Oct 26 earnings call, CEO Dan Schulman said SpaceX would need 65,000 to 80,000 cell sites costing $300B to $500B to compete in US cities and suburbs, where he said 98% of Verizon's revenue is.

He said it would take at least four to six years to build, plus more time for stores and customer service, and that he assumes "everything SpaceX says they will do, they will do." He also said Verizon sees "absolutely no benefit whatsoever" in letting a satellite company resell its network as an MVNO (a phone company that rents another carrier's network). Musk replied that it "will take 2 or 3 years." Neither side gave a cost breakdown. What it means: carriers are taking the threat seriously, and the open question is how fast and how cheaply SpaceX can add towers to its satellites.

Tesla makes its Houston Robotaxi area about 10 times bigger
Tesla's Robotaxi account posted on Oct 26 that a "bigger service area" is "now live" in Houston (Houston Public Media).

Trackers put the new area at about 254 square miles, roughly 10 times the earlier zone, and shaped like a rocket. The fleet is small for that much ground: Robotaxi Tracker, a crowd-sourced count, lists about 34 driverless Model Ys in Houston and no Cybercabs yet (Electrek). On Oct 27 Musk posted "A Storm of Cybercabs" over a photo of Cybercabs parked in Dallas, where Cybercab service is due in November. Still unknown: how many rides Tesla actually gives.

Cowboy Space unveiled Big Iron on Oct 26: a reusable rocket whose upper stage stays in orbit as a megawatt-class data center with Nvidia Vera Rubin chips (SpaceNews).

First flight is planned for 2028, and nothing has flown yet. What it means: more money is chasing orbital computing, the idea behind SpaceX's Starmind, and rivals also think they need their own big, cheap rocket to make it work. Starmind satellites are due to start flying in 2027.
